  1. I wanted you to be aware of this disappointing article that ran in the Towerlight after Thursday's signing ceremony with President Caret and the Rodgers Forge Community. I fail to see how turning Towson into the next College Park can be good for the greater community, and that is basically what they are advocating--that growing the University is a goal worth sacrificing everything for. Clearly they do not care about the surrounding community of which they are a part. They only see themselves as part of Towson University.

Please read this article and join me in taking this on board--that is, while we may have settled this one issue with the location of the new Arena to the satisfaction of the Rodgers Forge Community, we have larger issues to fight, not the least of which is a mindset that is set squarely on the side of growth at any cost. The Rodges Forge Community organization understands this and sees the bigger picture.

I think we, as residents of this community, should consider this article offensive, small-minded and very worrisome.
This battle with Towson University is ongoing. Our Committee's response and willingness to work toward meaningful compromise with the University is a positive thing. However, if, as some have suggested, the University thinks they "got away" with something today, they should think again.

  2. This Towerlight article is poorly conceived. Clearly the student values athletics over academics and does not seem to grasp that universities are first and foremost meant to teaching students to think critically. Growth at any cost is not wise for any community or university. I wonder if this student understands that student fees will pay for the new $45 million arena over time. Does he really value sports over his education, the stability of a community, and the escalation in fees that the arena will demand? Clearly TU is failing to teach at least some of its students to think critically. This article is proof that the $45 million would be better spend in enhancing the education of TU's students.
