I wanted you to be aware of this disappointing article that ran in the Towerlight after Thursday's signing ceremony with President Caret and the Rodgers Forge Community. I fail to see how turning Towson into the next College Park can be good for the greater community, and that is basically what they are advocating--that growing the University is a goal worth sacrificing everything for. Clearly they do not care about the surrounding community of which they are a part. They only see themselves as part of Towson University.
ReplyDeletePlease read this article and join me in taking this on board--that is, while we may have settled this one issue with the location of the new Arena to the satisfaction of the Rodgers Forge Community, we have larger issues to fight, not the least of which is a mindset that is set squarely on the side of growth at any cost. The Rodges Forge Community organization understands this and sees the bigger picture.
I think we, as residents of this community, should consider this article offensive, small-minded and very worrisome.
This battle with Towson University is ongoing. Our Committee's response and willingness to work toward meaningful compromise with the University is a positive thing. However, if, as some have suggested, the University thinks they "got away" with something today, they should think again.
